Frank Estes Massey, Jr. 83, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado, AR.
Born April 8, 1926 in Eufaula, AL, he was the son of Frank and Annie Laurie Massey, Sr. A 1944 graduate of Eufaula High School, he was an Eagle Scout and proud member of the high school marching band. During WWII, Frank proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Pavlic where he saw significant combat action in the Pacific. He received a BA in business from Auburn University in 1949 and continued to be a lifelong loyal War Eagle fan.
He married the love of his life, Louise Elizabeth Wright in 1948 in Eufaula, AL and began his career with Ingram Oil Company in Freeport, FL. He lived in De Funiak Springs, FL until 1961 when Murphy Oil acquired Ingram Oil. He was then transferred to New Orleans, LA and lived there until 1967 when he was transferred to El Dorado. He continued to work for Murphy Oil until he retired in 1992.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty-one years, Louise Wright Massey of El Dorado; his children, Mary Ann Simmons and husband David of Dexter, Missouri, Kay Darnell and her husband Ed of Franklin, Tennessee and Wright Massey and wife Nancy of Doha, Qatar; six grandchildren and one sister, Marjorie Sheheane of Forsyth, Georgia.
As a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over forty years, Frank served as Chairman of Deacons, Director of Senior Adults, Sunday School teacher, devoted choir member and a member of Prime Timers. Frank was a man of God with a servant’s heart who touched many lives.
The family wishes to thank each caregiver for the love and care given to our daddy over the years. They were devoted to him and became like family.
A Memorial Celebration of Frank’s life will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Lynn Worthen and Rev. Ben Early officiating. A private graveside will be held under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
